Press Release

New Video Promotes Fire Safety on College Campuses

Washington - The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, today announced the availability of a new, award-winning fire safety video, Get Out and Stay Alive. The video and its accompanying training kit are designed to educate college students about the importance of day-to-day fire safety and prevention measures in residence halls and off-campus housing.

"The USFA is expanding the audience for our fire safety message to specifically include college students," said USFA Administrator Carrye B. Brown. "This video emphasizes that when faced with a fire situation they must realize that escape is the first priority for personal survival."

Get Out and Stay Alive was produced under a USFA cooperative agreement by the Eau Claire Fire Department, Eau Claire, Wisc. The video, produced by TeleVideo Productions, has already won two awards. The Greater Wisconsin Chapter of the International Television Association (ITVA) honored the production with both the Cameo Fest Gold Award and the National ITVA Golden Reel Award.

USFA is distributing the training kit, including the video, brochure, facilitator's guide, and evaluation forms to U.S. colleges and universities. In cooperation through state fire marshals' offices, Get Out and Stay Alive will also be made available to fire departments nationwide.
