Maryland Department of the Environment:

The State agency with responsibility for chairing the Asbestos Oversight Committee, and the responsibility for the coordination, administration and implementation of the medical monitoring, training and equipment provisions of the Asbestos Safety and Health Program. Other duties of this agency (Air and Radiation Management Administration, Asbestos and industrial Hygiene Program, State Facilities Asbestos Division) are:

  1. Develops and disseminates asbestos training materials,
  2. Conducts asbestos-related training for State employees,
  3. Consults with the provider of medical monitoring services in the preparation of reports on aggregate data,
  4. Consults with the Department of Personnel and Departmental Coordinators concerning the medical monitoring, training and equipment provisions of the Asbestos Safety and Health Program.
  5. Identifies policy issues that arise from the training program, medical monitoring program or equipment provisions, and consults with the Department of Personnel and Departmental Coordinators concerning these issues,
  6. Provides a continuous evaluation of the medical monitoring, training and equipment programs, and
  7. Collaborates with the Department of Personnel and the Department of Licensing and Regulation in evaluating the overall effectiveness of the program.
