The Permit-Required Confined Space Inventory lists all identified permit-required confined spaces (as defined by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146) located on UM property.

UM employees who need to enter one of these spaces must follow the entry procedure outlined in the UM Confined Space Plan and utilize a UM Confined Space Entry Permit Display PDF Form Word Perfect Form .

Non-UM employees must follow a permit entry procedure in compliance with the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard (29 CFR 1910.146).

Confined Space Entry Confined Spaces are spaces large enough to be entered to perform work, have limited means for entry/exit, and are not designed for continuous employee occupancy.

Any entry into a Permit-Required Confined Space must be registered with the Office of Facilities Management Work Control Center at (301)405-2222. The center is open 24 hours a day. The following information must be provided:

  1. time, date, location and purpose of entry
  2. entry supervisor's name and a means of contacting the supervisor during the entry if necessary.

A copy of All completed entry permits must be mailed or delivered to DES, 3115 Chesepeake Building; College Park, MD 20742 after the permit is closed.

Permit-Required Confined Space Inventory

If you discover a space that meets the OSHA definition of a Permit-Required Confined Space but is not listed on this inventory please complete a Confined-Space survey form and forward the completed form to DES.
