University of Maryland MSDS Information

Obtain an MSDS For a Hazardous Material Used at the University of Maryland:

Material Safety Data Sheets and container labels may be obtain from the University of Maryland MSDSOnline system at: MSDS online.
To Obtain an MSDS for a product used in your group or shop:
  1. Click on MSDS online.
  2. For the Quick Lists, click on Locations.
  3. In the column marked DIVISION, find your Department or College (e.g., "Administrative Affairs")
  4. Expand the information for your department by clicking on the plus (+) sign.
  5. Find your group or shop (e.g., "FM - HVAC")
  6. Click on the group or shop. Material Safety Data Sheets are in alphabetical order. It may be necessary to search through several pages.
  7. When the product name and manufacturer are found, a copy of the MSDS in Adobe Acrobat format (.pdf) can be seen by clicking on the Display PDF Form symbol in the View column.
  8. The MSDS may be printed out.
To Obtain an MSDS searching by product name for all hazardous materials used on campus:
  1. Click on MSDS online.
  2. For the Quick Lists, click on Products.
  3. Enter the product name. Change the search option from "Full Text" to "Contains a Match".
  4. Enter the manufacturer name (if known). Change the search option from "Full Text" to "Contains a Match".
  5. Click on "Search"
  6. If the product manufacturer is known but the exact product name is not clear, it is advised to search on the Manufacturer name only.
  7. When the product name and manufacturer are found, a copy of the MSDS in Adobe Acrobat format (.pdf) can be seen by clicking on the Display PDF Form symbol in the View column
  8. The MSDS may be printed out.

MSDS online Material Safety Data Sheets for 3.5 million chemicals and tradename products.

Canadian Center for Occupational Safety & Health ~ 120,000 MSDS from over 600 manufacturers/distributors. Available only to UM faculty, staff and students.

Vermont Safety Information Resources, Inc. (SIRI) great source of MSDS for products (such as WD-40, paints, etc.) and numerous chemicals. An alternate site exists if the first site is busy or down.

National MSDS Repository a long list of manufacturers that provide online MSDS access.
